Within the analysis of the necessary and relevant technical aspects to consider to meet the requirements in the construction of batteries to be mounted and used in electric vehicles, the German firm Henkel has developed a series of adhesives that have specific benefits necessary in the implementation of these constituent elements.

What is epoxy?

Epoxy is well known as a type of durable glue that provides a high level of adhesive properties that are far superior to most ordinary paste glues. Typically sold in a two-component package that needs to be mixed before use. Epoxy is used to securely bond a diverse number of types of metal, plastic, wood, and other materials.

Created to provide adhesive power and a tough layer of protection, the basic elements of epoxy are derived from petroleum products. Often one of the building blocks of epoxy is polyepoxide, a bisphemol A that helps provide some of the bonding efficiency of the glue. Epichlorohydrin is another key element that provides the substance with a hard layer resistant to moisture and extreme heat and cold. The combination of the hard coating and strong bonding agents makes this glue the ideal choice in materials that take a lot of stress, such as reflective studs on roads or highways made of concrete.

The American Society for Testing and Materials recommends that bituminous glue be used for gluing reflective studs when the substrate is asphalt and epoxy when the substrate is concrete or concrete.

Bituminous glue:  brushing the substrate is recommended, as it must be clean and dry before application.
